Signing of the LA's Collective Agreement: Where We Stand

The Association of Justice Counsel (AJC) is disappointed in the delay by Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) to approve the signing of the LA Collective Agreement after our October ratification vote.

While we have had contact with the Minister's Office, we have yet to receive an explanation for the delay other than the volume of submissions filed with TBS.

Speculation that TBS will not honour its commitment is premature at this juncture. This would no doubt throw into chaos the whole collective bargaining system within the Public Service. Further, we have heard from other public service unions that these types of delays are unfortunately not uncommon.

AJC's President Lisa Blais stated that: "Our members are professionals. They expect their employer to act according to high standards of expertise and accountability. While we are disappointed at the slow pace and level of communication from the employer, we do not believe that they will fail to honour this agreement negotiated with the AJC, presumably in good faith."

The AJC has been and will continue to maintain pressure on the employer until this deal is signed. Rest assured that the pressure will increase, with all available means.
