Amendments to the Public Sector Pension Plan - How will LAs be Impacted

Further to our Communique issued on October 26, 2012, the AJC has now completed the assessment of the proposed amendments to the Public Service Superannuation Act by Bill C-45.

An executive summary is available on-line for AJC members. The summary includes information on:
  • Introduction of a two-tier system for retirement;
  • Age of retirement for new employees;
  • Contribution Ratio and Rates.

The bill will be creating inequities between young and older LAs in the public service. Unfortunately, these measures imposed by the employer fall outside the scope of bargaining.

However, the AJC remains attentive to these developments and will maintain pressure on the employer in order to preserve the public service as an attractive workplace for young lawyers and to ensure good succession planning within the LA ranks.

More information on changes to contribution rates and age of eligibility is available from the Treasury Board Secretariat Web Site.
