Friday is ”D” Day!

Dear Colleagues:

I am so pleased that so many of you have come out to our town halls across the country in recent weeks. I have met with literally hundreds of our members in 11 cities over the summer. I am delighted that so many of you have taken the time to study the draft agreement and then to come out to discuss it with me and your colleagues.

This is a crucial moment in the development of our Association.

As you know, getting to this stage has been a long and sometimes difficult journey. Some members have expressed their frustration with the time it has taken, and others differ over some of the impacts that the draft agreement will have in their world. Whatever, you view, if we are able to demonstrate that a large majority of our members have voiced their opinion on the draft agreement, that will strengthen our hand with the employer in future discussions around implementation.

It gives me great pleasure, as well, to report to you on the success of our registration campaign. Up to the close of registration last week, we have added more than 250 new members. We now have more than four out of five eligible employees as members of our association. This is a tremendous achievement in which we can all take pride.

I hope that you will understand that we had to set a registration deadline in order to create an up-to-date voters' list to ensure a fair, open and smooth voting process.

If you already have a right to vote and have not yet voted, there are only four days left before the vote ends on Friday, October 5 at midnight (EDT). Please, take a little time and vote! If you haven't received your voting instructions, call the AJC office.

We can be only as strong an organization on your behalf as your participation makes us. A strong association is an association with an outspoken and engaged membership. The most important step for all of us now is to vote and to persuade our colleagues to vote.

Thanks to all of you who have already exercised your franchise. The turnout has been impressive. I look forward to working with you to plan our next steps as an association when we have completed the ratification process.

Please don't hesitate to register even now. You will not be able to vote this time, but it will ensure that you are able to vote on future decisions reserved to the membership and it will ensure that you receive the array of services offered exclusively to members of the AJC. These include authoritative information bulletins on your conditions of employment, and news and information about upcoming decisions.
