Continuing to move ahead with strength: a 0.25% dues increase coming on July 1st 2016

The final dues increase will be taking effect on July 1st 2016. This final 0.25% dues increase represents a change from 1.0% to 1.25% of salary.

As you are no doubt aware, members at the 2015 Annual General Meeting voted (80.6%) in favour of the dues increase to build a job action fund. The importance of building the job action fund was due to the passage of Bill C-4 (2013), which removed arbitration rights and forced the AJC to consider conciliation/job action if it reached an impasse in bargaining.

On June 3 2016, the Government of Canada (GOC) announced its plan to table a legislation in the Fall that will restore the public service labour relations regime to pre-Bill C-4 (2013) implementation. GOC provided interim measures for bargaining that are reflective of this planned legislation.

With this recent development, the AJC Governing Council will be engaging in a review of the current job action fund strategy and dues formula at the upcoming Face-to-Face Meeting in October 2016 in order to provide a recommendation to the membership at the 2017 Annual General Meeting.

We encourage all AJC members to provide input to your local Governing Council representatives and to join us at the 2017 Annual General Meeting.
