Articling Student's Fees at DOJ: The Matter is Not Settled and the AJC Pushes On

The AJC and the Treasury Board (TB) have agreed to a disclosure schedule and are actively working on an agreed statement of facts

In November 2013, the AJC filed a policy grievance in favour of its articling student members who were not being reimbursed for their Law Society-related fees by the Department of Justice.

Following TB's denial  of the grievance, the AJC referred the matter to adjudication.

Further to the adjudicator's request for written submissions in lieu of an oral hearing, the AJC and the Treasury Board (TB) have agreed to a disclosure schedule and are actively working on an agreed statement of facts.

In the event that the parties cannot reach an agreement and an oral hearing becomes necessary, the normal adjudicatory process will resume. Should there be further developments on this matter, we will be sure to provide you with an update.

The AJC is responsible for advocating on behalf of federal lawyers and those who are new to the legal profession in the federal public sector with respect to their terms and conditions of employment.
